Server Architecture for Microsoft Dynamics NAV

Microsoft Dynamics Navision ( usually it is called NAV ) is a robust ERP System. Currently, it is more widely used in Asia. Several NAV vendor recommend the server architecture like this below.

From the diagram above, it seems the server architecture is very simple. There are only 3 servers, 1 LAN switch, 1 Firewall, 1 NAS Storage for backup and 1 internet router.

The 3 servers from the above diagram are :
  • 1 unit IIS Server ( Internet Information Server) . This is for webclient of Dynamics NAV
  • 1 unit NAV Server & SQL Server as primary server.
  • 1 unit NAV Server & SQL Server as a secondary server, a backup server of primary server.

Actually, It is not as simple like that, behind this hardware architecture there must be an Active Directory Server (AD Server) to place a domain name and DHCP Server to manage dynamic IP address.

Below, there is a diagram that can be applied to Microsoft Dynamics Navision 2015.

The above diagram is only a minimal specification. For a more secure architecture, it needs modification from the above diagram. I will not dicuss about it here, it required a consultancy fee haaa...haaa...
